If you’re looking to refresh an old or create a new logo, the following guide is a good place to start.
Logo with text contained in a shape – many emblem logos look a lot like an official badge or seal.
ABSTRACT LOGO MARK
The abstract (symbol) logo is a geometric form that represents your brand. It differs from a pictorial logo as it isn’t a recognisable symbol, like a bird or an apple.
These are illustrated character logos which are fun, colourful and often cartoonish that represent your company.
WORDMARK / LOGOTYPE
This typography based logo is very similar to a lettermark, however a wordmark is a font-based logo that focuses on the company name alone.
A pictorial mark is an icon or graphic-based logo design which when you think of the brand name, you always associate the image.
A lettermark is a logo designed with the initials of the company name. The lettermark is all about simplicity.
A combination mark is a logo comprised of a wordmark or lettermark, and a pictorial mark, abstract mark, or mascot.
When selecting a logo, DON’T create or choose a logo based on your preferences. You should be designing a logo that will appeal to your CUSTOMERS! These are the people who will be buying your products or using your services.
